An Epic Return to the New York Dining Scene

When it comes to fine dining in New York, nothing beats the All-American chophouse. Fine wine, thick cuts of meat, and heaping helpings of creamy mashed potatoes n’ mac and cheese. NYC has no shortage of quality steakhouses, but when superstar Chef Michael Mina announced he would be bringing his smash-hit steakhouse to the streets of New York City, a serious celebration was in order. Bourbon Steak has officially touched down in Central Park, in what critics are calling its greatest iteration yet. The legendary West coast steakhouse has certainly made a name for itself with its fine wines, craveworthy signature sides, and beautifully marbled cuts of meat, cooked to perfection with a little Chef Mina flair. From the sumptuous dining room to the best-in-class cocktail service, there’s certainly a lot to love. For those who value good food and good times- fire up the burners and get to know Bourbon Steak New York.

      The Story

Bourbon Steak New York marks a significant return for chef Michael Mina to the city where his illustrious culinary journey began. The new 300-seat restaurant is a nostalgic nod to his time at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, as well as his time at the legendary NY eateries Tribeca Grill and Aureole.

After leaving New York in 1989, Mina’s career soared in San Francisco, leading to the opening of Aqua in 1991 and earning multiple James Beard Foundation Awards. His partnership with Andre Agassi in 2003 birthed the Mina Group, transitioning Aqua to a Michelin-starred namesake restaurant. Bourbon Steak New York joins a celebrated lineup of Mina’s ventures, including Bourbon Steak locations in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, Bungalow Kitchen in Marin, Mina Brasserie in Dubai, and Pabu in San Francisco, showcasing Mina’s global culinary influence. Chef Mina has long expressed his excitement to return to New York, and that passion certainly comes through in the venue, menu, and experience.

      The Space

Once inside, it’s immediately apparent that you’re in for something special. The dining room has a gloriously retro feel, with dark wood, leather, and polished brass evoking the lavish nature of old New York. The warm lights above the marble bar top fill the space with energy, inviting guests to relax and unwind with a delicious drink in a sparkling glass. Hanging plants and manicured trees surround the plush booths, adding a refreshing energy that works well in tandem with the smoky smells wafting in from the kitchen. It’s an atmosphere that’s distinguished, but never pretentious.

      On The Menu

Chef Mina has assembled an airtight menu of steakhouse classics: all flavor and no filler. Dig into sumptuous plates of West coast oysters with a champagne mignonette, and crisp salads made with only the freshest local produce. All of the Bourbon steak signature dishes are present, including tuna tartare with asian pear and quail egg, and Chef Mina’s famous Maine lobster pot pie.

      fresh seafood

Photo: Rey Lopez | Bourbon Steak NYC

Then there’s the star of the show: thick cuts of woodfired prime beef and wagyu steak, rich with marbling and seared to perfection. Every menu decision was carefully considered to maximize flavor, and guests are invited to choose from a selection of premium steaks from across the country, or elite A5 Wagyu from three different prefectures in Japan. If you somehow have room for dessert, be sure not to skip the fresh beignet tower and the eye-catching flambeed chocolate fondue.

While most would consider steak a dinner food, patrons should feel no shame about indulging in the distinctly delicious breakfast menu. Prime steak and eggs, fluffy belgian waffles, and a continental trolley of warm pastries and market fresh fruit make a compelling argument for a chic little breakfast or brunch.

      Sip & Savor

The heart of Bourbon Steak is undoubtedly the bar. The beverage program adheres to the philosophy of elevating the classic American steakhouse, meaning all juices are hand-squeezed, all infusions are done in-house, and the wines and spirits available are the best from around the globe. First time diners can’t go wrong with a signature garden-grown cocktail, but special occasions might warrant a flight of reserve whiskey. Don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation, the knowledgeable staff have a penchant for identifying just the drink to elevate your experience.

The Best Reservation Systems for Your Business in 2024

Optimizing a business at any scale is no small feat, and when it comes to food and beverage, there are a whole host of additional factors that can add complexity and organizational headache. Floorplans, reservations, guest data, and ever-changing customer needs can be critical decision points for a growing business, which is why it is so important to have a reliable restaurant reservation system. But with so many features and price plans, how do you know which is the right fit for your business? Whether you’re a new restaurateur or a hospitality veteran, let’s dive into the perks of some of the most popular online restaurant reservation services.

        reservation systems ad

        SevenRooms

While not the industry standard for online reservations (something that is quickly changing), SevenRooms’ functionality should not be underestimated. On top of a full suite of organizational tools and a mobile app for management on-the-go, there are a few features that really make Sevenrooms stand out. Most importantly, live data on customer spend and the ability to track it over time, and cost reduction from eliminating the per-reservation fees that a service like OpenTable imposes on its users. It’s a suite of tools specially tuned for turning customers into regulars. With its ease of use and seamless integration into existing systems, SevenRooms is a compelling option for bars, hotels, and restaurants looking to make the switch.

Photo: Zocha Group – The Best Reservation Systems in 2024

        OpenTable

As one of the oldest and most established restaurant reservation systems available, it should be no surprise that OpenTable remains a popular choice. It is a robust system with wide reach and all the basic functionalities, easy to use and fast to implement. While certainly competitive, these benefits come with expenses. A hefty startup fee and additional fees with every reservation might dissuade a fledgling business, and while the platform’s restaurant marketplace attracts many eyes and is very popular with customers, the featured venues are curated, which can unfairly punish smaller restaurants. Even so, OpenTable is a solid option, convenient for any business looking to get their CRM up and running.

        your business

Photo: Zocha Group – The Best Reservation Systems in 2024

        Resy

Another major player in the restaurant reservation system market, Resy has earned a following with its robust tools for feedback and customer relationship management. Additionally, Resy’s reservation system has direct integration with channels like Facebook, Trip Advisor, and AirBnb, which can go a long way in driving bookings. What makes Resy unique is that it limits itself to exclusively serving upscale, high-market restaurants in major metropolitan areas. If that description fits your customer base, Resy can be a powerful tool to gain visibility in that market, but more niche businesses might have to look elsewhere. Regardless, Resy’s full-featured package is a boon to any restaurant, and is offered at a cost-effective price.

        Tock

Another relative newcomer, Tock has been taking up a significant portion of restaurant reservations with its integrated front-of-house solutions. Whether that’s booking a table, handling credit card payments, or managing the floorplan, Tock makes the process easy and intuitive. While its point of sale solutions are top shelf, Tock lacks robust management features, like order ticketing for the kitchen, and must be used in conjunction with other tools. Additionally, the base plan takes 2% of sales from each online order, which might dissuade higher-volume businesses. That said, its ease of use and lowest-in-class monthly fee make for a reservation system that is more than viable for any serious business.

        Yelp Reservations

Yelp Reservations – recently relabeled as Yelp Guest Manager – comes with the obvious benefit of restaurants being able to streamline their reservations through their Yelp page. That alone might be worth the price of admission, without mentioning POS features like the AI-driven waitlist algorithm, which consistently provides excellent guest experience. Where Yelp starts to stumble is with the high competition on its platform that heavily favors established venues, and a relatively expensive cost of entry for a package that doesn’t integration for mobile phones. That shouldn’t deter you however; it’s a high quality reservation system, especially for venues with a strong Yelp presence, or lots of walk-ins that can take advantage of the waitlist features.

        best reservation system

Photo: Zocha Group – The Best Reservation Systems in 2024

        Wisely

Wisely is a competitive reservation system that offers some more uncommon features like ticketed event support for venues that host private experiences, and credit card holds/prepayments that can help vendors save in the event of a no-show. While the Wisely CRM platform is feature rich, its strengths are mostly operational, with little in the marketing and outreach department. Additionally, users have reported that while the software is user-friendly, the mobile version leaves a bit to be desired. With its fast and powerful tools for building and analyzing your database of customers, Wisely is another great choice for your venue.

        tablet reservation system

Photo: Zocha Group – The Best Reservation Systems in 2024

        Eat App

This cloud-based, all-in-one platform that has been growing in popularity thanks to its easy to use tools for day to day operations. Eat App’s greatest strength is its cross-platform functionality, letting users their guests and tables seamlessly on desktops, iPads, and mobile phones alike. While the lack of unique features might bother some users, the platform is still developing and being shaped into a fierce competitor. With that in mind, Eat App is perfect for any business looking for something that put simply– just works.

        app based restaurant reservations

Photo: Zocha Group – The Best Reservation Systems in 2024

        Toast Tables

Toast Tables is a natural addition for existing users of Toast POS, offering a simple, user-friendly reservation system complete with Google integration. It also has a handful of useful revenue-generating features like guest profiles, loyalty sign-ups, and table statuses that update automatically. The main drawback is that Toast Tables is a relatively new system, which can leave a lot of its functionality feeling a little bare bones. Additionally, all customer-facing communication is Toast Tables branded, which can be less than ideal for venues looking to cultivate a brand. Even so, the cheap price tag and ease of use make it another good choice.

What reservation system to use is a problem that gets more complex year after year, as new players enter the market and features are constantly adapted and improved. Finding an All-in-one solution for reservations, CRM, organization and analysis might seem impossible, but all of the choices discussed above should get you closer to the goal. Zocha Group is a Los-Angeles based lifestyle and hospitality management group with global reach and a loyal network in the hospitality and entertainment industries. Experience Tailor Nashville: Indian Home Cooking at Its Finest

          experience tailor nashville Minne Morklithavong

Photo: Experience Tailor Nashville / Minnie Morklithavong

          Experience Tailor Nashville

Nashville, Tennessee has a new hotspot that has opened up to thunderous acclaim. The restaurant has been named one of Bon Appetit’s 10 Best New Restaurants in America, its head chef, Vivek Surti, has earned the achievement of being a James Beard Award semifinalist. Impressive accolades for sure, but a single meal at Tailor Nashville will convince even the most skeptical diner that Surti has created something truly special. Gujarati cooking is something that does not need elevating, but Surti has taken extra care at every step to create a seasonal menu that highlights the bold, nostalgic flavors the region is known for. With intimate presentation and plenty of pairings, anecdotes, and surprises from the chef himself, few restaurants can embody the warmth, comfort, and soul of Nashville quite like Tailor. It’s a remarkable gift, from his family to yours. Sit down, take a load off, and get to know this exciting destination.

          The Dining Room

The space itself feels more like a friend’s home than a restaurant, with exposed brick walls, bespoke decorations, and no communal tables in sight. Warm light shines down from the enormous crystal chandelier – an actual heirloom from chef Surti’s family home – which sets the stage for a truly pleasant meal. Grab a drink at the side bar, sink into a blueberry leather seat, and clink glasses with close company. You might catch a glimpse of Surti explaining the meal to come, or if you’re lucky, opening a bottle of bubbly with a saber.

There are only two seatings each night, and the energy is palpable. Everyone is friendly, relaxed, and as excited to tell you about the food as you are to eat it. The light earth tones around the restaurant really make the colorful food pop, and every moment is a simple but elegant photo op. Take in the drifting scents of spices and fresh brewed Chai, and breathe easy; you’re home.

          The Menu

Chef Surti’s story begins at home, with influences, ingredients and traditions originating from his mother’s cooking. His style seamlessly blends South Asian flavors with a hint of his Nashville upbringing, putting special emphasis on the beauty of everyday foods and the warmth they bring into our lives. (And with fresh ingredients and expert preparation, it’s hard not to be convinced.)

Tailor’s seasonal coursed menu is extremely tight, with only 7-8 dishes to enjoy, which should speak to their quality. Winter 2024’s menu, for example, is lauded for the Kadhi, a yogurt soup carefully seasoned with cumin, white turmeric, and ginger. Dip the handmade Thelpi frybread in the concoction, but save room for the Sweet Potato Bhel, Surti’s take on an iconic Indian Street food, and the signature Amaroo Hills Farm duck, served as both a perfectly marinated breast, and a jaw-droppingly tender duck confit biryani.

The menu is fully dynamic, changing as the seasons pass and more than able to accommodate dietary restrictions. With fresh vegetables every season and Surti’s new ideas always finding their way to the table, there’s no way of knowing what awaits you at your reservation, and no doubt that it will be something magical.

          Sip & Savor

The beverage services at Tailor Nashville are world-class, with a large selection of domestic and international wines to complement your meal. An entire page of inventive and original cocktails is sure to delight every palette, with options ranging from sweet and light to bold and timeless. But for the true Tailor experience, the beverage pairing cannot be skipped. It features many captivating choices from the lengthy beverage menu, whose stories and qualities make the experience all the more memorable. For those who don’t partake, there’s even a spirit-free pairing that features all the teas and tonics best suited to supplement the delicious food.

This is all without mentioning the iconic Chai, a recipe Surti’s dad has been developing for over 10 years. We know it contains real Gujarati Tea and a hint of fresh ginger, but the enchanting blend of spices remains a mystery. The tea is served alongside Nankhatai, his dad’s favorite cookie, and makes for an idyllic conclusion to an already memorable meal.

Chefs Adam Sobel and Nick Dugan’s fresh takes on classic Southern Italian cuisine have garnered significant attention from Charleston foodies, for good reason. Their focus on fresh ingredients and skilled preparation make for a menu that always hits the mark. In 2022, the pair spent two months researching and perfecting their recipes in Italy. As Dugen says “The best research is getting out there and digging a spoon into things!”, and that work and passion certainly comes through in the food. The “Pillows of Gold” ricotta tortellini immediately comes to mind, topped with mouthwatering prosciutto cotto, balsamico, and delightfully fresh butter, taking inspiration from local chefs, farmers, and nonnas. The dish has attracted quite the following, and diners would be remiss not to grab a plate. Don’t fill up however, the delectable arancini stuffed with bolognese and pasta-baked branzino are must-trys. Paired with a heaping helping of the pollo al lambrusco, Sorelle’s take on coq au vain, diners are in for a hearty but balanced meal, and a complete tour of Italy’s incredible culinary scene.

Should you arrive in the morning, Mercato offers Lamill coffee drinks and house mascarpone. Nothing pairs with a cappuccino quite like a cannoli made fresh. Stay for lunch and pick up a meatball and ricotta sandwich, or Sicilian pizza by the slice. Round out your meal with a scoop of handmade gelato, and a craft beer or bold Italian wine, always paired to perfection.

            Sip & Savor

Enjoy a taste of Southern Italian culture with Sorelle’s sensational selection of drinks and spaces to enjoy them. Start your evening in the grand dining room, taking in the natural light and sipping a delicious twist on a spritz, or a house martini prepared tableside. For guests feeling overwhelmed by the number of enticing cocktails, the menu is split into drinks to be enjoyed before, during, and after your meal. If you find your way to the atmospheric bar, peruse the craft beer list! Local or domestic, they’re always cold, and always delicious. The beverage tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the sumptuous wine room, boasting an unmatched collection of fine wines and spirits. Should you need a recommendation, the expertly-trained staff would be more than happy to find the perfect fit for you.

            The Mercato

Sorelle’s first floor is open to an unbearably quaint market chock full of authentic Italian goods for patrons to enjoy. Mornings in the mercato are accompanied by the smells of fresh baked pastries and espresso, while lunches are punctuated with all sorts of casual Italian fare, from chop salads to Sicilian pizza. Keep an eye out for Chef’s soup selection, fresh, flavorful, and different every day. Guests will need to see the loaded shelves for themselves, but they can expect a fabulous selection of meats, cheeses, and dried goods to bring home a taste of the Mediterranean.
