Coastal Cities in Italy

When traveling to Italy, many people feel Milan, Venice, or Pompeii are some of the best options. Not everyone considers the abundance of picture-perfect coastal towns and cities that Italy has to offer. The colorful and unique architecture, unrivaled views of the ocean, and the cliff-covered landscape that surrounds the towns are enough to spark romance inside of your heart. Whether you’re looking to do some shopping, A-list dining, or outdoor activities, you can find it all and more within some of the finest coastal cities in Italy.

Amalfi

Located at the mouth of a deep ravine and the foot of Monte Cerreto, Amalfi is a small but world-renowned city known for sun-filled piazzas, historic architecture, and luxury vacations. If you’re thinking about booking a trip to Amalfi, consider staying at the Santa Caterina Hotel, set in a hilltop villa on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The upscale hotel presents beautiful views of the water as well as two delicious restaurants and no shortage of amenities for guests.

Manarola

As a part of the Cinque Terre National Park, Manarola is known for being the ‘most colorful’ city in the world. The buildings resemble an artist’s palette, tightly placed together along a cliff overlooking the ocean. Manarola is one of five towns that make up the Cinque Terre National Park, and every year visitors flock to the park to hike and take in everything Manarola has to offer. On your next trip to Manarola, consider staying at La Torretta Lodge, a unique luxury hotel that boasts a modernized medieval tower and contemporary art-filled rooms that offer breathtaking views over the water.

Positano

You will never find a shortage of photo opportunities when visiting Italy’s most picturesque city with quaint homes, rustic hotels, and the most luxurious resorts on the Amalfi coast including the Il San Pietro di Positano. Positano’s location gives visitors the opportunity to travel by boat to Capri, Ischia and the Grotta dello Smeraldo. Enjoy laying out on the beach, hiking the foothills that lie behind the coastal paradise, or feasting on authentic Mediterranean cuisine at restaurants like Ristorante Il Capitano that provide gorgeous views of the sea.

Portofino

Portofino has become popular with US travelers in recent decades due to its opulence and picturesque scenery. The distinctive half-moon harbor now houses superyachts year-round, and new resorts like Belmond Hotel Splendido and Splendid Mare have sprung up ensuring that guests receive the best treatment possible. The Belmond is all about elegance and refinement, not overtaking the natural charm of the Riviera, but adding to it.

Sorrento

Where the mountains meet the sea and where deep valleys transition into beautiful citrus plantations is where you’ll find the enchanting Italian city of Sorrento. Located in the province of Naples, Sorrento is set on a truly unbelievable landscape. Enjoy sipping fine wines in the Piazza Tasso square, or check out the rolling countryside that leads into the Amalfi coast. After a day of exploring, retire to your room at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, a 19th-century grand dame located on a cliff right above the port.

Polignano a Mare

The historic old town of Polignano a Mare is thought to be one of the most charming as well as the most important towns in the south of Italy. The city is perched upon limestone cliffs overlooking the rich blue Adriatic Sea, creating a perfect location for cliff diving. Consider staying at the Borgobianco Resort & Spa Mgallery by Sofitel, renowned for its friendly service and ultra relaxing atmosphere.

Atrani

Atrani has long been the escape for the most powerful families of Amalfi. The city still maintains a small fishing village feel even after incorporating a variety of high-end conveniences and places to stay. The town has traditionally designed homes climbing up cliffsides to offer stunning views over the water, and there is a maze of tightly packed alleys and colorful gardens that run throughout. Here, the Belmond Hotel Caruso serves as the height of extravagance and sophistication. Set on a cliff overlooking the coast, this 11th-century palace is in a central location for all the activities you could ask for when vacationing on the coast.

Riomaggiore

Riomaggiore is the largest and most easterly city located within the Cinque Terre National Park. The city is placed upon the unspoiled blue waters of the Gulf of Genoa and is known for their Sciacchetra sweet wine which is fermented from Bosco, Fermentino, and Albarola grapes. The colorful homes create a backsplash of elegance against the natural, beautifully rough landscape. While roaming Riomaggiore and the rest of the Cinque Terre Park, consider resting your head at the Restaurant Hotel Porto Roca, the welcoming and down to earth hillside slice of paradise.

A New Age in Advertising with Experiential Marketing

            experiential marketing

Photo: Zocha Group – A New Age in Advertising with Experiential Marketing

            Experiential Marketing

In an era where ads are considered more of a nuisance than informative, companies are exploring more creative avenues to reach their consumers in effective ways. One approach that has gained traction in recent years is experiential marketing—events where consumers have hands-on and in-person experiences with brands. These experiential marketing events allow direct engagement that inspires an emotional connection to users.

It has become a recognized trend that millennials tend to spend more of their income on experiences in comparison to the product-oriented generations that came before them. With their eyes constantly seeking new activities, they invest their free time in taking trips, going to events, and socializing in public places. This modern pool of highly active individuals sets up a foundation for experiential marketing to be extremely effective for brands. The continuously growing social media landscape has also become a large aspect of why experiential marketing is so useful. The unique and artistic spaces created for events are often prime photo-ops for attendees. Interactive activities can inspire hundreds of pictures which users voluntarily post to their social media channels. Experiential marketing events often will include a custom hashtag promoted in marketing materials and signage that allow attendees’ photos to be grouped online to make them easily viewed by others.

Experiential marketing campaigns can also provide a way for brands to learn more about their consumers. Analyzing consumer data and KPIs are a significant part of marketing and with experiential events, consumers are often willing to provide relevant information about themselves in exchange for the opportunity to experience a fun event. These events act as a modern re-imagination of the classic focus group style of market research that proves to be more effective as it generates both in-person and online engagement while making a positive impact on the participant.

Ultimately the most beneficial part of experiential marketing is the personal connection consumers are able to make with a company and more specifically, their brand. These events help illustrate the brand’s narrative and integrate consumers into the story. Their in-person memories of experiencing the event are far more impactful than a billboard they pass on the street or an ad before an online video. These opportunities for direct engagement create a relationship where after attending an experiential event, the consumer is more likely to develop brand loyalty than through traditional means of advertising. This two-way relationship where both brand and consumer are learning about each other is an invaluable method that has plenty of space to flourish within the marketing industry.

                  Introducing The Bungalow Kitchen

Long Beach gained a chic, new restaurant with The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore–the latest outpost of the Bungalow Hospitality brand. A departure from its Santa Monica and Huntington Beach predecessors, this unique brand concept of a lounge-worthy eatery is the result of a partnership between Bungalow’s Brent Bolthouse and award-winning Chef Michael Mina. The “social dining” space opened its doors on March 4th, 2021 to a community of Long Beach’s Belmont Shore diners.

                  The Bungalow x Michael Mina

Brent Bolthouse has established himself as a veteran in the hospitality and nightlife industries through decades of success in Los Angeles. After opening the first Bungalow in 2012, the brand has grown to become a staple in its Santa Monica and later Huntington Beach neighborhoods. Joining with Michelin-starred Chef Michael Mina for The Bungalow Kitchen was a natural collaboration for the two. “Brent is a longtime friend of mine,” notes Mina, “We are so excited to collaborate on our first brand new restaurant concept and to utilize his deep roots in the industry with the launch of The Bungalow Kitchen.”

While plans for a Long Beach Bungalow have been in the works for years, the untimely pandemic spurred a shift in plans for the restaurateurs. “The original plans for Belmont Shore was to open the third Bungalow location, but Michael and I quickly shifted gears to rebrand and pivot to The Bungalow Kitchen in response to the pandemic, opting to launch our new brand concept there first,” Bolthouse explained. Plans for a Northern California Bungalow Kitchen in Tiburon are still currently in development.

In the Heart of Belmont Shore

Guests of The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore can expect to be wowed by the living room-like setting, a “community clubhouse” for cocktails, dining and socializing. Perched on the upper floor of the 2nd & PCH shopping center, the eatery overlooks the water of Long Beach’s Alamitos Bay. Similar to other Bungalow locales, eclectic, bohemian decor will make the comfy hideaway perfect for lounging. The 10,000 square foot space, designed by frequent Bungalow collaborator Studio Collective, boasts custom furnishings, stylish artwork and rock and roll-inspired decor reflecting the nostalgia of Long Beach’s punk rock influences. Mixing a traditional bungalow style with sleek, musical elements creates an environment of eccentric refinement for visitors to unwind.

                  The Space

Similar to other Bungalow outposts, the multi-room layout allows for a residential feel that creates a welcoming ambiance of comfort. Rooms in varying sizes and styles add an additional layer to the dining experience, offering multiple backdrops for guests to enjoy themselves. The plush seating in the dining room is perfect for large party visits or cozy date nights, with a fireplace bringing warmth to the space. The game room features a pool table for a fun, post-dinner activity, while the sunroom provides a sophisticated locale for sipping cocktails. No waterfront restaurant would be complete without outdoor seating, making Bungalow Kitchen’s 3,000 square foot patio ideal for al fresco dining with a view of the bay.

                  A Social Dining Experience

The social dining experience at The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore is elevated by Chef Michael Mina’s dinner and late night menus of California cuisine, with a brunch menu soon to be added. An emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients brings fresh flavors to the variety of indulgent plates. Guests can start their dining experience with table snacks like Crispy Duck Wings or Prosciutto-Wrapped Asian Pears. A raw bar includes items like Tai Snapper Ceviche Verde and Tuna & Tomato Poke, as well as platters that may be shared between 2-4 people. Salads like the King Crab & Endive Caesar are sure to impress, while pastas like the House-Made Rigatoni and Spicy Lobster Spaghetti will be seaside favorites. The Kitchen also offers grilled and roasted selections like Charcoal-Grilled Lamb Tenderloin and Grilled Sea Bream, alongside Chef Michael Mina’ signature Lobster Pot Pie, featuring whole Maine Lobster, Truffle-Lobster Bisque & Petite Root Vegetables.

                  Late Night Bites

Aside from dinner, the limited late night menu will also satisfy cravings with items like the Bungalow Burger and “Boardwalk” Crinkle-Cut Fries. Bites will be paired with a drink menu of classic cocktails and an expansive wine list of curated selections. Delivery and takeout are also expected to be in The Bungalow Kitchen’s future, soon allowing patrons to enjoy Chef Mina’s creations right at home. Bolthouse and Chef Mina bringing a fresh, new dining destination to Long Beach is sure to attract excited local patrons ready to enjoy their piece of the renowned Bungalow brand. The success of Bungalow Huntington Beach suggests this twist on the widely-acclaimed bars will make waves in the Long Beach restaurant scene for years to come.

                    Los Angeles

There are dozens of neighborhoods in Los Angeles, each with their own individual style, culture and attractions. Book a hotel stay in a centrally-located area like West Hollywood, and you’ll get to experience the full dazzle of the city. A room at the West Hollywood EDITION places you in a sleek, luxury hotel with easy access to restaurants and nightlife. Buy tickets for a show at the Hollywood Bowl for a unique, outdoor music experience unlike any other venue in the city.

While you’re in Hollywood, grab a drink at Good Times at Davey Wayne’s, one of the city’s favorite bars for cocktails and dancing. You can’t leave the area without taking in the ocean waves, and the Santa Monica Pier is an iconic locale to visit in Southern California. You can also stop by one of Santa Monica’s most popular bars, The Bungalow, to watch the sunset over the Pacific as you sip a refreshing cocktail.

                    San Diego

San Diego is the biggest county in California, offering plenty of space to explore the beautiful landscape. Road trip to the area and stay downtown in the bustling Gaslamp Quarter to be walking distance from the hottest restaurants, bars and nightlife. The Kimpton Hotel Palomar is a great selection for a stylish place to stay in the heart of the area. Visit San Diego’s trendy Little Italy neighborhood for delicious restaurants like Herb & Wood, brunch favorites like Morning Glory or revelrous bars like Kettner Exchange.

To get in touch with nature, head to Torrey Pines Beach to take in the breezy, ocean air. This beautiful beach is a local favorite along with secluded locales like Black’s Beach. Joshua Tree is known for its scenery of unique, yucca trees and uninhabited desert, making it a great destination for camping under the stars. You can also drive further out to see Salvation Mountain, a colorful, Instagram-worthy art installation just east of the Salton Sea.
