West Hollywood Extends Last Call Until 4am

west hollywood extends last call to 4am

Photo: Zocha Group – West Hollywood Extends Last Call Until 4am

Is West Hollywood Extending the Last Call Until 4am?

West Hollywood remains a bustling hotspot with a prominent nightlife scene. The hotels are glamorous, the clubs are extravagant, and there’s seemingly always something to do. WeHo is a neighborhood that’s always on the move, and there’s some good news for nightlife junkies. On Monday, June 27th, The West Hollywood city council voted to extend the city’s last call time to 4am, which would allow bars, clubs and restaurants to keep the party going, long into the night.

City Councilmember John Erickson says the biggest issue is making sure people can get home safely. “As a young person and young elected official, I see my friends out there way past 2 a.m., but also we have public safety concerns. We want to make sure people are getting home safely. And when people are leaving our bars and nightlife, they’re going into other cities so what do other cities think?”

There’s a compelling case to be made that not only is there a ton of money to be made for the neighborhood in alcohol sales, but bars being open late isn’t even a radical idea. Many major American cities have already pushed the window for late-night excitement, including New York, Chicago, Miami, and Las Vegas

      Pending State Approval

The pilot program would still need to be approved by the state, but West Hollywood is not alone in their fight for epic nights. Several other California cities were on the docket, including San Francisco, Oakland, Fresno, Coachella, Cathedral City, and Palm Springs. City officials could choose to extend alcohol sales in certain areas, on given days of the week, or even just for special events, like San Francisco’s Outside Lands and of course, the ever-popular Coachella.

Should West Hollywood elect to extend the last call, it is sure to be an exciting time to be in Los Angeles.

The lush rooftop terrace features a hand-carved wooden tiki bar where guests can enjoy Asian tapas, and the highest End of Miami’s party scene.

Serena at the Moxy South Beach

For al fresco patio dining and a killer margarita, Serena brings the charm of Oaxaca and Mexico City to South Beach with a laidback open-air rooftop terrace. The severely Instagrammable neon sign reads in Spanish, “last one and we’re leaving”. Put it on the gram before ignoring that advice completely, as Serena is sure to keep you around with delicious drinks and bites.

        Rosa Sky

The drinks are as colorful as the sunsets you’ll see at this moody rooftop lounge. Revel in the sleek modern design, low-slung seating, and loads of lights choreographed to the banging tunes of Rosa Sky’s program of live DJs. Experience Miami’s glitterin downtown from your table, or through the rooftop’s provided binoculars for an up-close look at the action.

        Ocho at Soho Beach House

This exclusive rooftop oasis is the crown jewel of Mid-Beach. Guests who manage to secure a spot are greeted to a luxurious rooftop pool, large daybeds and comfy lounge sofas, and one of the finest rooftop bars in Miami, with a host of well-crafted cocktails to enjoy.

        MILA

The dress code at MILA guarantees phenomenal photos at this South Beach rooftop. Uber-trendy and ultra-popular, the menu blends Japanese and Mediterranean influence, while the sexy decor is the perfect place to see and be seen. The cocktails are as elegant as the bar that serves them, with drinks like the Spring in Osaka (Suntory Japanese Whiskey, elderflower, lychee & club soda) being a must-try.

        Juvia

Juvia is potentially South Beach’s best spot for a date with a view. The French, Japanese, and Peruvian menu is a curious assemblage that goes great with Juvia’s collection of delicious cocktails. The cool breeze and cool digs are a real treat on a balmy South Florida night.

        Sky Yard

Explore the Best Italian Restaurants in NYC

New York has no shortage of excellent Italian restaurants. Every New Yorker has a favorite pizza place, pasta spot, and red sauce joint in each of NYC’s diverse neighborhoods. Whether you’re looking for a buzzy newcomer, fancy white-tablecloth throwbacks, or just a solid slice, these are the best Italian restaurants in NYC for an authentic taste of The Big Apple.

          Carne Mare – Financial District

This warm, welcoming spot is a classic Italian chophouse offering prime cuts of steaks, fresh seafood, and Italian specialties, all with a view of the Brooklyn bridge. The wood-fired oven, wrap-around bar, and grand staircase spiraling up to a handsome dining area exude class, beckoning guests to an unforgettable dinner, lunch, or even brunch

          italian restaurants nyc pasta

          Photo: Zocha Group

          Carbone – Greenwich Village

Carbone is a scene ripped straight from Goodfellas. Regardless of what you think about the waiters’ maroon tuxedos and the tiny, exclusive dining space, this Greenwich Village classic has undeniably fantastic food. You’ll feel like a real mafia don dining on phenomenal pasta with red sauce, and sampling bananas foster made tableside (live flame included).

          Don Angie – Greenwich Village

Softly illuminated by candles and globe lights each night, West Village’s hottest restaurant is a romantic corner trattoria, serving updated Italian-American plates in its cozy dining room. Don Angie’s signature pinwheel take on lasagna is acclaimed for its flavor and texture, and is sure to please your palate alongside Italian gin and Campari-based cocktails. The wait times can be excessive, so it is recommended that guests book a reservation.

          Lucali – Brooklyn

New York City pizza is the subject of frequent debate, but Lucali’s regular appearance on local and national best pizza lists should speak for itself. This Brooklyn pizzeria has it down to the essence: a simple pie with fresh mozzarella and basil, add a few toppings if you feel like it. However the quality of ingredients and level of craftsmanship that goes into each pie results in a flavor and texture that is nearly unattainable outside of Mother Italy herself

          Via Carota – West Village

A fondness for Via Carota is almost an NYC residency requirement, as their soulful Italian plates have amassed quite a following in recent years. The legendary cacio e pepe is the perfect treat to pair with a late-night glass of wine, but for a larger meal the grilled chicken tagliatelle with prosciutto is a must try. The menu changes regularly, but when they’re available, the vegetable dishes are the star of the show.

          Lilia – Brooklyn

Spiaggia in Chicago put chef Missy Robbins on the radar, but Lilia in Williamsburg is what catapulted her to glory. Lucky diners might even encounter her near the flame-spitting grill, carving up succulent lamb steaks with roman spices. The casual brick and wood-lined interior is a cozy space to enjoy a classic plate of spaghetti, or the signature sheep’s milk ricotta agnolotti, drenched in a heady honey saffron sauce.

          Rezdôra – Manhattan

In 2019, Rezdôra established itself as one of the best Italian Restaurants in NYC, and the awards keep coming. The restaurant’s name translates to “head of household”, usually a nonna who hand rolls pasta, and that comes across in the food: traditionally prepared meat, fish, local vegetables, and Northern Italian wines that really feel like a home cooked meal from a visit to Italy.

          Dominicks – The Bronx

One the most classic Italian Restaurants in NYC, Dominick’s has been serving up well-sauced pasta for over 50 years. Located on the Bronx’s Arthur Avenue- known as the neighborhood’s Little Italy- the friendly staff are extremely knowledgeable about the host of classic Italian dishes on the lengthy menu. For an authentic red-sauce, stuffed artichoke, or solid sirloin steak, you can’t go wrong with Dominick’s. Beware however, they are cash-only.

Al Di La Trattoria – Brooklyn

This Park Slope eatery has remained unsurpassed in the neighborhood, and the food makes that fact obvious. The Northern Italian dishes like the black spaghetti with octopus ragú and braised rabbit are ethereal, almost impossibly delicious. The brick-walled, chandeliered dining area feels like a worldly Italian grandmother’s home, the perfect explanation for the truly magical taste of the Al Di La’s tagliatelle ragú.

          Il Buco – NoHo

What was once a Noho antique store is now a charming spot for pasta and seafood, and one of the best date-night spots in the city. Savor the warm country bread dipped in Umbrian, Ligurian, and Sicilian specialty olive oils, all produced exclusively for Il Buco. Whether you’re enjoying a delightful risotto or a seared filet of Alaskan king salmon, Il Buco’s wine list is one of the best in the city, guaranteed to have the perfect compliment to your meal.

          Elios – Upper East Side

For over 40 years this posh red-sauce joint has been serving quality pastas and chops in New York’s beautiful Upper East Side. It’s a buzzy, old school restaurant with a cozy presentation to take diners back to a simpler time. Be sure to grab at least one of 7 spaghettis.

          Emilios Ballato – Manhattan

The third owner of this storied establishment, Emilio Vitolo is a stalwart proponent of unfussy preparations of classic dishes. Hearty Rigatoni Bolognese in a thick sauce with beef, pork, and veal. Baked shrimp with simple garlic and bread crumbs. Emilio is not going to be surprising you with dishes you’ve never seen before, but with the quality of the food and service. If he doesn’t know your name by the time you are seated, he will by the time you finish your espresso.

          Bar Pitti – Greenwich Village

This cozy Italian trattoria remains a reliably tasty draw for locals and tourists alike. Owner Giovanni Tognozzi is always there greeting the regulars, unless he’s in Tuscany, stocking up on fresh olive oil. The menu might seem small, but the massive specials board is all you need. Everything is great, from the rabbit to the pastas. Order as much as you can, because this place is cash only.

          Nello – Upper East Side

This fashionable locale is emblematic of its home on Madison Avenue. Leisurely, cosmopolitan dining awaits visitors, who can sample a variety of fresh pastas, including ones made with Nello’s famous winter truffles. The ornate decorations, abundant flower arrangements, and immaculate mood lighting tell you everything you need to know- at its core, Nello is a place to see and be seen.

              Know Before You Go

You’ll hear the locals refer to the festival as “the Wiesn”, a short name for the Theresienwiese fairgrounds on which Oktoberfest has always taken place. Oktoberfest 2022 is over two weeks long, but many seasoned festival-goers say that even just one or two days of celebration will fill your cup (or stein, if you will), so don’t feel like you have to attend each day. The festival and the tents inside are free to enter.

It’s essential to stay fed and hydrated throughout Oktoberfest, especially if you’re drinking heavily. You’ll find plenty of food options at every turn inside the festival: roast chicken, sausages, Bavarian soft pretzels, potato pancakes, and on and on. Some tents also feature nontraditional offerings like wine and Thai food. You shouldn’t have an issue finding water throughout the festival.

Oktoberfest is a celebration that revolves around beer, and drinking copious amounts of it. If a lively atmosphere and large crowds of (drunk) people aren’t your vibe, this may not be the right festival for you. However, there’s more to enjoy than just drinking, like live music, games, and carnival rides. Regardless of what’s brought you to Oktoberfest, don your best traditional Bavarian outfit (buy your own or rent onsite) and enjoy the celebration.

              Where to Stay

Oktoberfest takes place at the Theresienwiese fairgrounds in Munich’s Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt borough. Munich has a reliable public transit system, and locals recommend staying anywhere with easy access to either a U3, U4, U5 or U6 line.

One of our favorite hotels in Munich is The BEYOND by Geisel, a luxury stay in the heart of the city with a private chef always at the ready to prepare your next meal. The Platzl Hotel is also a favorite of festival-goers for its proximity to the grounds, fantastic onsite restaurants, and balance of modern and Bavarian classic decor. The Mandarin Oriental Munich will offer something different than the traditional with its worldly elegance and culinary inspiration from legendary Chef Nobu Matsuhisa. We also recommend the Hotel Munich City Center by Meliá, a trendy and convenient stay for those who want a great hotel bar to keep the party going.

              Choosing Your Tents

Most tents stop serving alcohol at 10:30 and close by midnight, but that shouldn’t be an issue when the kegs are tapped by 9 a.m.! There are 17 large tents (think capacity for 3,000 – 8,000 in each one) and 21 smaller tents. Experts say you can’t really go wrong with any tent, but each one does have its own personality and food/ beverage options. It’s recommended that you reserve tables ahead of time, especially in the evenings. The options can be overwhelming for first-time Oktoberfest visitors, but Zocha Group can help you make the ideal reservations for your party.

Some notable tents include Käfer, which is the only tent open till 1 a.m. Try to get there before the other tents close at 10:30 p.m. to ensure it doesn’t reach capacity! The Marstall tent is the most modern of them all, offering vegan and vegetarian options and generally catering to a younger crowd. You’ll find that locals favor certain tents, like Schottenhamel, while international guests (particularly Americans) can be found at the Hofbräu Festzelt tent. True Oktoberfest tradition lives at the—you guessed it—Tradition tent, and the Weinzelt tent might be the least traditional, featuring things like wine and seafood.

              Mark Your Calendar

Throughout Oktoberfest 2022, you can expect to find food, drink, and fun anytime of day, everyday of the week. However, there are a few stand-out events to make special note of. The first day of the festival, Saturday, September 17 this year, is one of the most exciting. Tents will open at 9 a.m., but the parade doesn’t begin until 11 a.m. At noon, the Lord Mayor of Munich officially taps the first keg, signifying that beer may be served and Oktoberfest has begun.

Sunday, September 18 is known as “Gay Sunday,” an all day and night party that happens at the Pschorr-Bräurosl tent. What started as a small gathering of friends in the 1970’s is now an all-out Pride-style event for festival attendees. There’s also the costume and hunters’ parade on Sunday at 10 a.m. where costume clubs, hunter troops, marching bands and musicians from around the world march through Munich and end up at festival grounds. Oktoberfest’s traditional church service happens on Thursday, September 22 in which all guests are welcome to join.

Both Tuesdays of the festival, September 20 and 27, are Family Days. Rides and performances will be discounted for kids and families to join in on the celebration! Sunday, September 25 is the annual outdoor concert, and festivities wrap up on Monday, October 3. The closing ceremony features the customary gun salutes to say goodbye to Oktoberfest till next year.

                    Assembling a Crew

On each yacht is a crew of 6-12 people living in 3-5 cabins, all ready to spend their week partying on the water. If you don’t have a full boat, the process of filling your crew is made easy by TYW’s crew finder tool. The mandatory equal gender balance also ensures that there’s a variety of travelers to mix and mingle with. Additionally, you have the ability to hire a skipper if your group isn’t sailing savvy, or a host to take on the task of making freshly prepared meals each day. These two upgrades are considered necessities for most Yacht Week attendees who want to treat their adventure like a true vacation.

                    Booking a Yacht

With the Greek sunshine beaming down on you for the week, you’ll want to make sure you choose a boat that will be comfortable for you and your friends to enjoy. With Standard, Premium and Premium Plus yacht options, you can decide on your preferred boat with Premium Plus offering up the best amenities like spacious cabins, quality bathrooms, air conditioning, and a first-class experience. The Greece Route has minimal port fees compared to other routes, but you will find higher fuel costs due to the long days of sailing between locations.

                    What to Pack

Prepare for the trip of a lifetime by bringing necessities that will enhance your trip in ways you wouldn’t expect. Things like swimsuits, sunscreen and lightweight clothing may be a given, but to have the most fun during TYW, you’ll want to add a few more items to your shopping list. Inflatable floaties are great for lounging on during the line and circle rafts where you’ll splash around in the sea. Also bring your country’s flag to represent home along with fun costumes and toys to enhance your crew’s look during the regatta. More practical items like battery-powered fans, an auxiliary cord or portable speaker, and a water-proof camera will also come in handy to make your trip more pleasant. Don’t forget to include an all-white outfit for the Riviera Chic party, which is often one of the best celebrations of the week.

                    Schedule

The itinerary for each route will vary slightly, as there are two options of a starting marina and activities are scheduled around weather. You’ll find out your exact schedule a few weeks before you depart for your adventure, but here’s an example of what your trip might look like.

You’ll meet up with the rest of the Yacht Week crews at a restaurant where you’ll get your first taste of Greek cuisine. An after party usually follows and you’ll crash on your docked boat to prepare for tomorrow’s departure.

                    Poros

You’ll set sail to this small island and get a chance to explore the great shopping and amazing restaurants. One of the most fun days of the Greece route is when you visit Nikki Beach for a lively day party. Attendees often book a room at the Nikki Beach Hotel for a place to freshen up and get ready for the festivities. Bottle service is a must with luxurious daybeds helping you soak up the sun as you celebrate. There also may be an after party at the Nikki Beach Pearl Rooftop for you to keep the party going after dinner.

                    Natural Bay & Dokos

The peak of every Yacht Week trip is regatta day—a boat race with each crew dressed up in themed costumes. Awards are given to crews who have the best outfits, sailing skills and enthusiasm, so make sure your group is ready to bring a good time. After the regatta at Natural Bay, you’ll end near the island of Dokos for a line raft. All the boats are tied together for yacht party hopping and lounging on floaties. You can also explore the secluded island with a hike or spend the rest of the day enjoying the views of the sea.

                    Ermioni

One of the most memorable days of the week, you’ll attend the freshly themed Riviera Chic party where all white attire is required. Bottle service will give an added touch to make the most of the festivities. Dinner is a necessity after the event with a few late night restaurants open that your skipper or host will be happy to recommend to you.

                    Hydra

You’ll get to spend your day exploring the beautiful island of Hydra and spend some time shopping the local boutiques. Ride a donkey along the cobblestone streets and taste authentic Greek cuisine at one of the island’s many delicious restaurants. The warm weather will likely coax you into booking a hotel room where you can freshen up before dinner at the Sunset Restaurant. Breathtaking views of the sunset will be your backdrop as you wine and dine with all the crews. The after party at the nearby Omilos is an easy walk and is a great place for bottle service.

You’ll wake up on your last day of fun to sailing back to the port where you arrived in Athens. If you’d like to check out of the boat early, you can book a hotel for some R&R before the final party of the week. You’ll head to Yabanaki Beach to celebrate at the popular Varkiza Resort for your last hurrah and to say your goodbyes to your new friends.

                    Helpful Tips

Keep in mind some of these helpful tips to ensure your Greece Yacht Week vacation reaches its full potential:

                    • With such a beautiful city right at your fingertips, flying out a day before or after your Yacht Week excursion is a great way to maximize your time and explore Athens.
                    • You’ll want to buy all your groceries for the week on Day 1 while you’re docked at the marina, and will accompany your host for shopping if you have one. Stock up on jugs of water along with snacks for munching and booze for boat partying. You should also get things like shampoo, trash bags and toilet paper that will be essentials throughout the week.
                    • If your boat doesn’t have a shower, keep in mind that the only places to shower are the Nikki Beach Hotel in Porto Heli, hotels in Hydra, or a secret spot inside a restaurant in Ermioni—ask your skipper for the inside scoop.
                    • Don’t forget to tip your skipper and host for all their hard work during your week of revelry.
                    • Get cash out while you’re still in Athens on Day 1 as many of the Greek restaurants are cash only, or will only accept a limited number of credit cards for the table.
                    • Decide on a regatta day theme beforehand and include your host and skipper in the festivities by bringing costumes for them too.
