    The Horizon

Built as “The Horizon” in 1952 by William F. Cody, an architect that helped shape the iconic mid-century modern architecture of Palm Springs, the hotel quickly became a celebrity hot spot. During the 1950s and ‘60s, it drew Hollywood elite like Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, producer Jack Wrather and a number of US Presidents to come experience the sprawling, three-acre desert sanctuary.

In the Heart of the Desert

Los Angeles designer Steve Hermann was brought in to revitalize the property in 2015 while still keeping its mid-century character intact. The original style of the hotel is now combined with modern and vintage furniture to create a nostalgic yet contemporary space for a whole new generation of trendsetters. Hermann’s addition of an open-air spa and alfresco restaurant SoPa added even more to the attractive vacation spot. The welcoming interior creates an air of residential luxury leaving guests to feel right at home in the heart of the desert.

    The Bungalows

The 25 bungalows throughout the property are designed with handpicked decor and custom finishes to create an intimate space filled with comfort. Entering into their bungalow guests will never have to remember a room number, as each domain is personalized with a gold, etched name plate. Exposed wood, marble accents, and stone walls bring natural touches to the room against its mountainous desert backdrop. The indoor-outdoor feel is enhanced by glass doors that provide plenty of natural light for a tranquil stay. One of Los Angeles’ most famous streets is the iconic Melrose Place, known to most outside of the city from its namesake ‘90s TV show. Local Angelenos are fans of the block thanks to its jewelry stores, coffee shops and designer boutiques that include international names like Balmain, Marni and Oscar de la Renta. There will soon be a new dining addition to the luxurious strip with the opening of MELROSEPLACE Restaurant and Rooftop.

          The Location

This new, 8,000 square foot addition to West Hollywood is located just off of La Cienega Boulevard in an area already bustling due to the variety of dining and nightlife destinations nearby. MELROSEPLACE will be taking over the former home of The Allbright, a private, women’s club that closed during the pandemic. MELROSEPLACE plans to take inspiration from the previous brand in making the new venue an all-in-one destination for leisure.

          The Venue

Additional stores and casual dining options will also soon be added to the lineup of street level destinations.

The second floor will provide multiple environments for guests to dine throughout the day. A cafe will be opening as a daytime hangout for coffee and bites. Both indoor and patio seating will be available for guests to enjoy the alluring menu of California-inspired dishes. Alongside dinner will be a thoughtful cocktail program by the talents of Umbrella Hospitality Group, with creative beverages to complement the food menu or to enjoy at the venue’s bar seating.

Plans for a lively rooftop lounge are in the works for the third level, joining the ranks of nearby rooftop destinations like Harriet’s Rooftop, Skybar and E.P. & L.P. The rooftop bar is expecting to make its debut just in time for guests to take in the sunshine during Summer 2022.

          Sunset Collective

The minds behind MELROSEPLACE are Sunset Collective, a group with an impressive combined history in entrepreneurship, Los Angeles nightlife and hospitality. Costas Charalambous, Shyon Keoppel, and Stafford Schlitt came together to breathe new life into Los Angeles’ post-quarantine hospitality landscape. Charalambous is known in the industry as one of the founding members of SBE, a Los Angeles hospitality company where he also served as president. MELROSEPLACE will join Sunset Collective’s growing roster of venues which also includes the ultra-exclusive lounge Offsunset. If you manage to get a reservation at this exclusive boutique restaurant, you’re in for some of the best seafood in Los Angeles. The pristine plates of crudo are delightfully palatable, and the vegan and vegetarian options are no slouch. For adventurous eaters, the “Neptune’s Flight” tasting menu is chef-selected, featuring off menu items that are certifiably delicious.

              Providence

Eating at providence is an event, a dinner which might take hours as guests sample the multi-course tasting menus. That said, it’s done in a way that never feels too pretentious. The cheese cart, salt-baked prawns prepared table side, and take-home brioche for the next day’s breakfast are welcome sights, served in a luxuriously tranquil setting. The food is imaginative and delicious, with an ever changing menu that makes every visit feel unique.

              Water Grill

Nestled in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, this family-owned delight has been a prime seafood destination for over 30 years. The daily catch menus are always fresh and flavorful, and the appetizers always deliver, with favorites like the Clam Chowder, and grilled Spanish Octopus. After a delicious meal in an inviting atmosphere, make sure to grab a slice of the signature key lime pie.

              Holbox

Top-shelf Mexican food meets top-shelf seafood at this casual eatery. It is a bit of a hole in the wall, but for an incredible smoked fish taco or spicy, savory ceviche, this is one joint worth seeking out. The menu is enormous, with a selection of tacos and raw fish to peruse, but the buttery-soft Baja Scallops are a cut above.

                Il Buco – Noho

One of the best Italian restaurants in NYC, Il Buco is a quirky but cozy spot for pasta and seafood, retaining the charm of its former life as an antique store. The food is delicious, but the expansive wine list truly stands out, and you’ll have no trouble finding the perfect bottle for you and your date.

                Gallow Green – Chelsea

This verdant rooftop bar could be described as hopelessly romantic, with all the looseness and frivolity of a summer wedding. Sit under lofty vines and fresh floral arrangements, sipping themed cocktails like (pea flower-infused vodka, elderflower, and rosé cider) for a date night you won’t soon forget.

                Porcelain – Ridgewood

Queen’s favorite Austrian restaurant is the perfect place for casual eats and comfy conversation. You’ll feel right at home between plush furniture and stenciled wallpaper, as you and your date nibble on fresh apple-pear strudel.

                Nura – Brooklyn

The decor at Nura is certainly a draw, with high ceilings and plants elevating the already relaxed atmosphere, but the menu is sure to keep diners and daters coming back. The delicious cocktails, fresh breads, and selection of dips are seemingly tailor-made to keep conversations going.

                Llama San – Greenwich Village

Specializing in Nikkei fare, the trendy Japanese-Peruvian flavors that have been taking over the dining world, Llama San offers delightful modern dining under soft lights and blonde-wood furniture. Minimalist, classy, and effortlessly cool, Llama San is undoubtedly one of the best places for a date night NYC.

Gem Wine – Lower East Side

This charming wine bar feels more like someone’s living room than a restaurant, and is a lovely spot for natural wines and natural conversation. The menu is mostly vegetarian, with occasional seafood and meat dishes, all available as small plates, in case you need to cut the evening short.

                Matsunori – Lower East Side

For fans of Omakase, Matsunori is a standout choice. With only five nightly seatings and a BYOB policy, guests can expect an intimate, personalized sushi dinner with nothing but what they want to drink, and who they want to spend time with.

                Little Branch – West Village

This inviting little rathskeller is not only one of the best speakeasies in the city, but one of the best bars for a date night NYC. The atmosphere is intimate but never claustrophobic, and the skilled bartenders only need a base liquor and a hint of your mood to whip up something special for you and a date.

                Contento – East Harlem

One of the New York Times’ top restaurants 2021, this Peruvian-leaning joint’s tart ceviche, hefty burger cradling raclette, crispy pork katsu and robust wine list are sure to impress any date. The service is especially attentive, giving you and your dining partner plenty of space when necessary.

                Le Coucou – Soho

Candles, white tablecloths and grand chandeliers. Le Coucou is a French restaurant, as fancy and romantic as they come. Be sure to share your plate with your date, the entrees like the quenelle made with pike and lobster au poivre with a cognac cream and peppercorn sauce are decadently rich.

                Maison Premiere – Williamsburg

This gorgeous New Orleans-inspired salon boasts a warm fireside feel, and all the gorgeous allure of the Big Easy. Guests can expect fresh oysters, live jazz and a guaranteed romantic night in the 1000 square foot garden.

                Four Horsemen – Brooklyn

Half bar, half dining room, and all romance. Four Horseman is a cozy natural wine bar that offers all the cheese and charcuterie one could want, but the kitchen truly elevates the experience. The menu is constantly changing, and your spontaneous date is sure to be improved by spontaneous dishes like cured fish with yuzu kosho, saucy fried chicken with onions and mushrooms, mussel skewers with aioli, and an exceptional plate of fried potatoes.

                Ophelia – Midtown East

Glitzy and Glamorous, Ophelia is a sumptuous bar perched 26 stories above ground, with some of the best views of New York’s incredible skyline. The sultry old-world appeal almost guarantees an elegant date.

                NR – Upper East Side

At the sister Bar to Harlem’s beloved ROKC, guests can expect the same attention to detail that pervades the drinks, Japanese cuisine, and low-lit romance the restaurant/bar is known for. Whether you’re enjoying a steaming bowl of ramen or a tasty twist on a classic cocktail, it’s hard to imagine your date going anything but smoothly.

                Diamond Lil – Greenpoint

Next to McGolrick Park is the perfect stop on your nighttime stroll, a moody Art Nouveau bar where the tables are always staged for two. The cocktails are delicious and refined, but for something a little unconventional the fresh bloody mary/mini beer combo and the frozen coffeelada are just the thing to spice up a date.
